Tarek is Climbing Kilimanjaro for Syria and for Human Rights

Story

I am aiming to raise money for human rights by participating in Amnesty International's Climb of Kilimanjaro in 2013.

Being from Syria, where human rights are constantly violated, where 60,000 people (mostly civilians) have been killed and 1.2 million have been displaced over the last two years, where friends and family tell me that when they leave home they don't know whether they will ever come back, I felt the deep need to contribute to any cause that supports human rights. I thought what is a better way to do so than to join Amnesty International's Climb of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and the highest free standing mountain in the world at 5895m above sea level. Climbing it will not only give me the opportunity to contribute to human rights financially, but also it will provide me with physical challenges so I can feel a fraction of the discomfort that people encounter in all countries that violate human rights.

In 2005 I made a transition from living in a dictatorship to freedom by moving from Syria to Australia. This transition affected me on all levels, mentally, physically and emotionally. I wish people who are living in suppressive and abusive countries to have what I had.

I welcome any contribution, great or small, that you can make.

Help me reach my fundraising target by clicking on the Donate button and making a secure online donation.

Thank you,

Tarek
